It’s a Family Affair
Purple’s founders are brother Tony and Terry, both engineers. In 1989, they decided to combine Tony’s experience in advanced aerospace material with Terry’s experience in manufacturing and design to create better cushioning and support for wheelchairs and sporting goods. They were very successful and after years of success, they decided to adapt their technology to mattresses.
What Sets Purple Apart: Hyper-Elastic Polymer ™
Purple is unique from any other mattress on the market- it’s not spring or foam but actually has its own technology: Hyper-Elastic Polymer ™. Invented by Tony and Terry, this material was created to redistribute weight and relieve pressure points and was used by top companies like Dr. Scholl’s, Jansport, and Nickelodeon in everything from shoe insoles, to critical care medical beds, to backpack straps.
In 2013, the brothers decided to use their material to create commercial mattresses.
The World’s First No Pressure™ Mattress
The top layer is a grid made from Hyper-Elastic Polymer ™, and this is where the magic really happens. First, its grid formation allows for easy airflow, which keeps your mattress temperature-neutral (a key factor for a restful sleep). The material itself can stretch up to 15 times its original size, and it’s this elasticity that gives it the ability to evenly distribute your weight and relieve all pressure points. The result? A mattress that’s both soft and flexible to protect your pressure points and firm to support your body and spine.
Because of the mattress’s unique stretching abilities, Purple recommends using their stretchy sheetto get the most out of your mattress experience.
Purple is “Green”!
Environmental consciousness is a priority at Purple. The mattresses are recyclable and made from 100% food grade materials, and their packaging is recyclable as well.
You won’t find any toxic chemicals either. All of their foam is certified by Certi-PUR US®, which ensures that your mattress is made without ozone depleters, flame retardants, mercury, lead, or other heavy metals, formaldehyde, or phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Purple’s Commitment to Their Community
Purple’s warehouse is located in the small town of Grantsville, Utah. Purple will soon be the town’s biggest employer and is partnering with local high schools and training facilities to provide locals with the skills to continue to work and grow with the company.
The 28% viscose, 67% polyester, 4% lycra blend offers a soft, stylish, all-white cover. The material is very breathable and contributes to the cooling benefits of the mattress.
The 2” Hyper-Elastic Polymer ™ material in Smart Comfort Grid ™ top layer evenly supports your body, spine, and pressure points and provides a cooling, temperature stabilizing environment.
The 3.5” 1.8 lbs density polyurethane foam middle layer offers deep support for your body.
The 4” 2.0 lbs density polyurethane foam bottom layer provides a supportive foundation.
